Immune Boosting Elixir
It’s officially fall! The leaves have changed colour, the rain boots are out, and it’s already happening: people are getting sick with runny noses and sore throats. The best way to avoid the fall cold and flu is prevention which can be easily achieved with the right foods to support your immunity. What does supporting your immunity mean? Nourishing your body with vitamins and minerals that will provide it with the strength it needs to ward off anything that may get you sick. There’s no better way than to reach for those infamous superfoods which are known to have extra-large doses of vitamins and minerals.
Below is an easy concoction that was inspired by BeautyBlenz’s Femina Beautifying Superfood Protein blend, which I discovered at my go to skincare sanctuary SKN Holistic Rejuvenation Clinic. My main inspiration for the elixir below was to create something that would both accent some of the ingredients within Femina protein blend (such as spinach) and include foods that we typically would have on hand. Another key ingredient to the elixir recipe is ginger. As the months get colder, it is important for us to balance this out with thermogenic foods to warm us internally, like ginger. Lemon will provide a boost of more vitamins, but also helps break down the spinach to make it more available for absorption. The spinach, flax seed, apples, and banana provide us with much needed fibre, and the nut butter adds a healthy fat, which when combined with Femina protein will help keep you feeling satisfied for longer.
The kicker to this recipe lies within the Femina protein blend, as it brings it to the next level with the superfood ingredients. Each and every ingredient has so many benefits that include decreasing inflammation, fighting free radical damage, potent antioxidants to boost your immunity, anti-aging and as if that wasn’t enough, it’s beautifying for the skin, hair and nails, as the name suggests.
